 “.doc” versus “.docx”

FACTOR currently will only recognize “.doc” formats for all text-based, online attachments. The most recent version of Microsoft Word (Word 2007) has made a change to their program that may default your saved files to “.docx” or “.docm” formats. Please be mindful that due to the fact that FACTOR and its regional representatives operate all juries on a standardized, electronic system, FACTOR will not accept files with the “.docx” or “.docm” extensions due to their incompatibility with our current software. Fortunately, Word 2007 will allow files to be saved in “.doc” format in order to ensure their compatibility with older versions of Word. This change can be made by selecting the “.doc” file type through the “Save As” function.

If you experience difficulty saving your files in the “.doc” format, please contact the FACTOR office immediately, well in advance of the deadline. You will be permitted to submit your accompanying material in Hard Copy format as long as it is received at the FACTOR office on or before the deadline day.  Your material must be clearly marked with the online ID number for the corresponding application and applicant/artist name.

ATTN: Mac Users.

Please be advised that FACTOR and our Regional Affiliates do not operate on Mac computers.  If you are applying to FACTOR on a Mac, please ensure you have a copy of either iWork or Microsoft Office for Mac in order to be able to save files in “.doc” format.
