Welcoming GOvernment of Canada investment in Canadian creators
FACTOR welcomes the Government of Canada’s investment in Canadian creators, culture and storytelling
FACTOR – The Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings – welcomes today’s announcement of the Government of Canada’s $600 million investment in Canadian culture. This funding will provide important stability and immediate support for Canada’s audio and audiovisual sectors.
This investment recognizes the critical role that creators, entrepreneurs, cultural organizations and Canadian-owned businesses play in strengthening Canada’s cultural identity, economy and presence on the world stage.
“Canadian music is more than entertainment, it is one of the ways we tell our stories, reflect our communities and express who we are as a country,” said Meg Symsyk, President & CEO of FACTOR. “At a time when global platforms are consolidating and have unprecedented influence over what audiences discover and consume, it is more important than ever that Canada continues to invest intentionally in its own creators and creative businesses.”
“This announcement recognizes that a strong cultural sector does not happen by accident. It requires ongoing investment, partnership and a commitment to ensuring Canadian voices can be heard and discovered at home and around the world. Canadian songwriters, musicians and music companies have repeatedly demonstrated that they can compete on the world stage when they have access to the right tools and opportunities.”
We recognize the government’s commitment to ensuring that digital platforms remain affordable and accessible to Canadians. These platforms play a vital role in the discovery, promotion, and distribution of Canadian music, helping artists connect with audiences at home and abroad.
FACTOR appreciates the government’s commitment to supporting the sector during this period of change and for recognizing the economic and cultural value that our industries generate. This investment helps provide stability today, and FACTOR looks forward to working with government and stakeholders to develop a permanent, modernized funding framework that strengthens cultural sovereignty, supports Canadian-owned businesses, and creates sustainable opportunities for the next generation of creators.
FACTOR looks forward to continuing to work with government and industry partners to ensure Canada’s music ecosystem remains innovative, sustainable and globally competitive.
