Altered By Mom

Altered by Mom is a female-fronted positive vibes alt-rock band from Toronto that is simply “unstoppable” (exclaim!). Born from the infectious energy and sharp wit of JUNO-winning songwriters Gina Kennedy and Devon Lougheed, joined by Max Trefler on drums, Altered by Mom has brought their dynamic, high-energy live show to festivals and showcases across the globe, co-written songs with members of Mother Mother, Sam Roberts Band, and Aysanabee, earned an artist endorsement from Yamaha Music Canada, and synced songs in TV shows on network and streaming.

Catchy, confident, and fun, their forthcoming album BETTER showcases their personal and musical growth, tackling themes of self-worth and resilience, and exploring where to find optimism in the face of existential disaster. With a blend of humor, heart, and showpersonship, Altered by Mom is, as they say, “chaos with a party vibe”.

What impact has FACTOR funding had on the success of the project you’re sharing with us today?

FACTOR’s support has been an accelerant for Altered by Mom, enabling us to grow both as artists and as a business. On the creative side, we had the resources to supersize our creative process, collaborate with inspiring artists and engineers across the country, and produce an album that met our highest standards. On the business side, FACTOR’s support allowed us to take our music beyond Toronto to a global audience, showcasing at international festivals and securing placements, significantly amplifying our reach and growing our audience. FACTOR’s backing has given us the chance to connect with new listeners who might have never encountered our music otherwise, growing our fanbase in ways we couldn’t have achieved alone.
