Story
Rumour Mill is a west-coast Canadian duo headed by multi-instrumentalists, Aline Deanna and Anna Katarina, currently residing in beautiful British Columbia. Inspired by the likes of Fleetwood Mac, HAIM, Shawn Colville, The Civil Wars, I’m With Her, Rumour Mill creates genre-melting indie-pop-folk-alt-country music always led by iconic harmonies and organic instrumentation. Their first full-length album, What She Said released in October 2023, and has seen international success. It is a collection of beautiful, groovy and memorable songs that feature a lush and groovy topography of violin, keys, guitar and mandolin, led by a narrative of iconic harmonies, produced by Murray Pulver (Crash Test Dummies, The Bros. Landreth) and supported by FACTOR’s Juried Sound Recording program and Creative BC. The duo has toured the record in six countries: Canada, Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland and Germany; and seen significant radio play in the UK.
FACTOR allowed us to dream big with our album What She Said. We wanted to “destination record” with a producer we’d had our eye on for a long time. FACTOR’s funding allowed us to spend two weeks in Winnipeg recording with Murray Pulver (Crash Test Dummies, Noah Derksen, The Bros. Landreth) and create the album of our dreams. Nowadays, so much is dependent on marketing and promotional budget. So many artists record beautiful music that barely sees the light of day because of all the noise. We were able to promote the album with a small team of marketing pros, create iconic videos and eye-catching promo photos, ensuring the album reached our current fans and gained us new ones. The industry is a tough climb, but we now have an album we are incredibly proud of and a bigger audience who is enjoying our hard work and art!
